Nexus Letters
A nexus letter is a document that is written by a medical doctor that clearly describes how an in-service event caused the claimant’s current medical condition. A nexus letter can be added to your claims file as evidence and can improve your chances of being granted service connection or receiving an increase to an already service-connected condition.
Dr. Allen is the son of a U.S. Navy Veteran. As such, he understands firsthand the personal sacrifices that veterans have made for the benefit of our country. Military service can entail participation in combat, separation from loved ones, personal and occupational stresses and the incurrence of physical injuries that cause life challenges long after separation from the military.
Due to military culture, which often discourages service members from seeking medical care after developing concerning medical symptoms or suffering an injury, many veterans were unable to seek treatment and fully receive complete medical diagnoses while in-service. Because of this, Dr. Allen is dedicated to providing comprehensive medical evaluations and thorough medical opinions in the post-military stage of their lives.
Experience
Dr. Robert J. Allen, Jr. is a medical doctor who is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry) and is fellowship trained in Pain Medicine. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine. He completed residency and fellowship training at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
He has worked in private practice since 2012 and since 2016 has performed thousands of veteran compensation and pension (C&P) benefit examinations as an independent medical examiner retained by companies such as VES, QTC, and Optum Serve (formerly LHI).
Over the course of his medical career, Dr. Allen has worked at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia and the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He understands the overwhelming bureaucracy that veterans face when navigating the VA compensation and pension benefits system.
He is thoroughly familiar with all phases of the VA C&P claims process and offers his insight and guidance on general medicine claims (Ear/Nose/Throat, pulmonary, cardiac, gastrointestinal, urological, dermatological, cancer, diabetes, thyroid, nerve injuries, etc.), musculoskeletal claims (neck, spine, shoulders, elbow/wrist/hand, hip, knee, ankle, foot), and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Dr. Allen takes great pleasure in articulating veterans’ claims with precision and attention to detail, fully aware of the importance of thoroughly reviewing the record and citing the latest scientific authorities. This is crucially important when writing detailed nexus letters. He takes pride in his work and is honored to serve those who have served this country.
Dr. Allen, a psychiatrist, is the daughter of a U.S. Army Veteran. As such, she understands first hand the personal sacrifices that veterans have made for the benefit of our country. Military service can entail participation in combat, separation from loved ones, and personal and occupational stresses that can all lead to the development of psychiatric conditions.
Due to military culture, and the stigma associated with mental illness, many service members are unable to seek psychiatric treatment while in-service. Because service members' psychological needs are often overlooked on active duty, Dr. Allen's is dedicated to providing psychiatric care to veterans in the post-military stage of their lives.
Compassion for Veterans
Dr. Allen witnessed a shocking injustice after she became acquainted with a Vietnam War veteran who served honorably in the US Marine Corps earning a Purple Heart for his combat service but was denied his claim for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It turned out that the denial was the result of a poor assessment completed by an inexperienced examiner. Understanding the need for compassionate and competent claims assessments, Dr. Allen decided to include independent medical examinations and nexus letters for veterans in her medical practice.
Experience
Throughout her medical training, Dr. Allen has worked at VA Medical Centers in Hampton, Virginia, Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Charleston, South Carolina. She understands the overwhelming bureaucracy that veterans face when navigating the VAMC compensation and pension benefits system. Additionally, she has a great deal of experience having been employed as an independent medical examiner. She has completed many examinations all over the country and is well-equipped to perform thorough independent medical examinations and write detailed nexus letters. She is intimately familiar with the level of detail and documentation that should be included in your nexus letter and submitted with your case file (also called C-file or claims file) to make for a very strong VA disability claim.
Dr. Allen's mission is to provide high quality, thorough examinations. She maintains a vibrant outpatient psychiatry private practice where she provides care.
During this free phone consultation, we will discuss the circumstances of your VA claim. We will also explore the strengths and weakness of your claim, and determine if there may be other medical conditions for which you should consider filing claims.
